Why a Private Jeweler

Why Naples Couples Choose Sakaris for Their Engagement Ring

In many jewelry stores you work with a salesperson and choose from what's already in the case. At Sakaris Jewelers you work with the person who designs and makes your ring.

You work with the founder, not a salesperson

Every engagement ring starts with a conversation with Peter Sakaris. He answers your questions on the spot, from diamond proportions to prong styles, without checking a tag or asking a manager. Peter personally designs every piece with his clients, sources each diamond himself, and is hands-on throughout assembly, before his team of expert jewelers finishes the ring to his exact specification.

Peter learned the trade from his family, who have been in the jewelry business in Montreal for more than 50 years. Before that, he played professional hockey, which is how many of his first clients found him. You can read more in Peter's story.

No inventory to sell you

Sakaris Jewelers doesn't keep a case of pre-made rings and loose diamonds it needs to move. That changes the advice you get.

Say you want a 3-carat oval with an elongated 1.55 length-to-width ratio, F–G color and VVS2 clarity. Peter sources that diamond for you. A store that has a 2.5-carat, 1.30-ratio, H VS2 oval in its case has every reason to tell you that one is right, especially if it has been sitting there a while.

No catalog. No pre-made designs. Every piece starts with a conversation and ends with something made entirely for you.

A general comparison. Every jeweler is different, so ask these questions wherever you shop.

Clients typically pay thousands less than for a comparable ring at retail, and they receive a ring made for them rather than one that other shoppers have already looked at and passed over. It's common for couples to tell Peter, partway through their first consultation, that this is the most comfortable they have ever felt shopping for jewelry.

The Process

How Your Custom Engagement Ring Is Made, Step by Step

Two short consultations, one ring designed exactly the way you want it. Most couples go from first meeting to finished ring in about 4 to 8 weeks.

  1. First consultation with Peter

30 to 60 minutes · studio or video

Come alone to plan a surprise, or come as a couple. Either way, Peter leads the conversation. He wants to know her as well as you do:

    • Her everyday style, and whether she leans classic, modern, vintage or minimal
    • The metal she wears most, including her watch and everyday earrings
    • Diamond shapes she has admired, saved or hinted at
    • Her lifestyle: golf, tennis, pickleball, boating, the gym, or a job that keeps her hands busy
    • The size and shape of her hand, and whether she likes a ring to sit low or stand tall
    • Whether she'll want her wedding band to sit flush, and any sentimental details
    • Your budget, your timeline and your proposal date

Bring inspiration photos, especially rings she has pointed out to you. Peter will find the common thread and turn it into one design.

  2. Diamond sourcing and 3D design

    Usually within days

Peter and his team source diamond options to your exact specifications while the in-house CAD department builds ultra-realistic 3D renderings of the ring. Everything is planned to fit within your budget, getting you the best quality it allows. No one will push a bigger stone or extra details you don't want or need.

  3. Second consultation: see it before it's made

    Often 10 to 15 minutes

You review the renderings from every angle and see your loose diamond options in person, usually up to three. Some clients compare three sizes, some compare two or three length-to-width ratios of the same oval, and some ask to see only the one stone they've chosen. Small refinements, such as prong shape or band width, are made here before you give final approval.

  4. Production

    4 to 8 weeks · 50% deposit

A 50% deposit begins production. Your ring begins as a precision 3D design, then it is hand-finished, every diamond is set by hand, and it is hand-polished. Peter is involved hands-on in bringing it together, with the Sakaris jewelers finishing the work to his standard.

  5. Pickup at the studio

    Champagne included

Naples clients usually collect their ring at the studio, where there is champagne to celebrate while you look it over. Hand delivery is available on request. The balance is due at delivery, and you leave with your diamond grading report and an independent appraisal for insurance.

Proposal coming up fast?

Once the design is approved, a ring can sometimes be completed in 2 to 3 weeks without any compromise in quality. If even that is too long, Sakaris can lend you a studio sample ring to propose with. Afterward, you come back together and she designs her own ring with Peter. One client did exactly that when he wasn't sure what his girlfriend wanted.

Finding her size in secret

Borrow a ring she wears on her ring finger and bring it in to be measured, or quietly ask a close friend or family member. If the fit isn't perfect after the proposal, one complimentary resizing within the first year is included. The ring sizing guide has more tips.

Here for the season?

Many Naples clients start before they arrive. A couple from Chicago recently held their first consultation by Zoom to design a 30th anniversary ring, then saw the renderings and diamonds in person once they came down for the winter. Learn how a virtual consultation works.

The Diamond

Choosing Your Diamond: What Naples Couples Are Choosing

The most popular center diamonds with Naples clients in 2026 are ovals, round brilliants and radiants, with elongated cushions a close fourth. Most center stones fall between 2 and 3 carats.

ShapeWhy Couples Choose ItCommon RatioWhat to Look For
OvalElegant and elongating on the finger, with excellent sparkle and a larger look per carat than a round1.30 to 1.50, or 1.55+ for a slimmer lookA minimal "bow-tie" (the darker band across the center) and an outline that suits her hand
Round BrilliantThe most brilliant shape and a true classic1.00The only shape GIA gives a cut grade; Excellent is the top grade
RadiantLively, crushed-ice sparkle with clean cropped corners, square or elongated1.00 to 1.05 square, 1.20 to 1.35 elongatedEven sparkle across the face and a ratio that matches the look she likes
Elongated CushionSoft, pillowy corners with a romantic, slightly vintage feel; old mine cuts add antique character1.10 to 1.30Faceting style (chunky or crushed) and a shape that isn't too square or too narrow

Ratios are common preferences, not rules. Because Sakaris sources every diamond individually, you can choose any ratio you like.

Getting the most diamond for your budget

There's no single "right" color or clarity. At your first consultation, Peter sets a budget range with you and asks what matters most in the diamond: size, color, clarity, or a balance of all three. Then he sources stones that put your budget where you'll actually notice it.

That approach scales from a first engagement ring to the largest stone Sakaris has set this year: a 12-carat cushion mixed cut diamond, sourced and built into a ring for a Naples client.

For the fundamentals of cut, color, clarity and carat, see the diamond education guide.

Independent grading reports

Every center diamond comes with an independent grading report: GIA (Gemological Institute of America) for natural diamonds and IGI (International Gemological Institute) for lab-grown diamonds.

One detail worth knowing: GIA only issues a cut grade for round brilliants. For ovals, radiants, cushions and other fancy shapes, the report covers polish and symmetry, so the shape's proportions and how the stone actually looks matter even more. That's where Peter's eye comes in.

Natural and lab-grown diamond engagement rings

Most Sakaris engagement rings are set with natural diamonds, and that is where Peter's sourcing focus lies. Sakaris also makes lab-grown diamond engagement rings for Naples couples, and many clients ask for them. Lab-grown diamonds are a smart choice when you want the same craftsmanship with a larger or higher-grade center stone for your budget. Every lab-grown center diamond comes with an IGI report, is sourced to your exact specifications, and is set in a ring designed and finished exactly the same way. Sakaris advises on both options honestly with no agenda in either direction.

Do diamonds look different in the Naples sun?

Yes, and usually for the better. Direct sunlight is a strong, focused light source, so it brings out a diamond's sparkle and fire more than most indoor lighting does.

Sunlight also contains ultraviolet light, and some diamonds glow when UV hits them. This is called fluorescence. GIA reports that roughly 25 to 35% of diamonds show some fluorescence, almost always blue, and that for the overwhelming majority it has no widely noticeable effect on appearance. In diamonds with a faint yellow tint, blue fluorescence can even make the stone look whiter in daylight. Only in very rare cases, fewer than 0.2% of fluorescent diamonds according to GIA, does extremely strong fluorescence make a diamond look hazy.

Fluorescence is listed on every GIA and IGI report, and Peter reviews it when sourcing your diamond, so a stone that will spend a lot of time in Florida sunshine looks the way you expect it to.

The Setting

Designing the Setting Around Her Life

Solitaires and three-stone rings are the most requested settings in Naples this year, and yellow gold and platinum are both in high demand.

The details that make it hers

A ring that looks right in a photo can still be wrong for the person wearing it. Peter and his clients decide every detail together, based on how she lives:

  • Setting height: low profile for an active life, or taller for maximum light and presence
  • Prong style: claw, rounded, tab, double or compass-set
  • Band width, taper and profile, so it suits her hand and stacks well
  • Hidden halos, side details and the gallery under the diamond
  • A flush fit with her wedding band, if she wants one
  • Engravings, birthstones and other sentimental touches

Gold, platinum, or both

14K GoldVery durable, a great everyday choice
18K GoldMore pure gold, with a richer, warmer yellow
PlatinumNaturally white, dense and secure around a diamond
Two-ToneA yellow gold band with a platinum head, one of the most requested combinations in Naples this year

Because every ring is made to order, combinations like this are simple to achieve.

Family diamonds and heirlooms

Sakaris is happy to design a new engagement ring around a diamond that has been in your family. Peter examines the stone in person first to confirm what it is and its condition, and tells you honestly whether it suits the design before anything begins. Because older stones can carry hidden stress from years of wear that no inspection can fully detect, family stones must be insured by the client before setting work begins.

Anniversaries and upgrades

Not every Sakaris engagement ring is a first. Couples who have been together for decades, some celebrating their 30th, 40th or even 50th anniversary, come in to mark the occasion with a new ring or an upgraded diamond.

A wedding band made to match

Sakaris also makes custom wedding bands for its engagement ring clients, designed alongside the engagement ring so the two fit together perfectly.

Questions

Naples Engagement Ring Questions, Answered

How much does a custom engagement ring cost in Naples?

Custom engagement rings from Sakaris Jewelers typically range from about $5,000 to $150,000 and up. The biggest factor is the center diamond: whether it is natural or lab-grown, and its carat weight, color and clarity. Most Naples clients choose a center diamond between 2 and 3 carats. Peter Sakaris works within your budget from the very first conversation, no matter where that number is, and never pushes a bigger stone or extra detail you don't want.

Is a custom engagement ring more expensive than buying one from a jewelry store?

Usually not. Sakaris Jewelers manufactures its own rings, so there is no distributor margin, sales commission or store markup between you and your ring. Clients typically pay thousands less than for a comparable ring at retail, and the ring is designed and made for them rather than chosen from what happens to be in a display case.

Where is Sakaris Jewelers located in Naples, and is it a jewelry store?

Sakaris Jewelers is a private, appointment-only jeweler, not a retail store. The studio is at 3066 Tamiami Trail N, Suite 302, Naples, FL 34103, on the third floor, with parking in front of and behind the building. Appointments run Monday to Saturday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Sunday appointments can often be arranged on request.

How long does it take to make a custom engagement ring?

Once you approve the final design, a custom engagement ring takes about 4 to 8 weeks to make. When a proposal date requires it, Sakaris Jewelers can sometimes complete a ring in 2 to 3 weeks without compromising quality, depending on the design and the studio's schedule. Ask about timing at your first consultation.

What if my proposal date is too soon for a custom ring?

If time truly isn't on your side, Sakaris Jewelers can lend you one of its studio sample rings to propose with. After the proposal, you come back together and your new fiancée designs her own ring with Peter. It keeps the surprise intact and means she gets exactly the ring she wants.

How do I find out her ring size without her knowing?

The easiest way is to borrow a ring she wears on her ring finger and bring it to the studio, where it can be measured. You can also quietly ask a close friend or family member. If the size isn't perfect, every Sakaris engagement ring includes one complimentary resizing within the first year, where the design allows. See the ring sizing guide for more tips.

What happens at the first consultation?

Your first consultation is always with Peter Sakaris, the founder, and takes about 30 minutes to an hour. You talk through her style, the metals she wears every day, the diamond shapes she loves, her lifestyle, any inspiration photos, your budget and your timeline. You can come alone to plan a surprise or come as a couple. Consultations are available at the Naples studio or by video.

Can I bring inspiration photos from Pinterest or Instagram?

Yes, and it's one of the best ways to start. Bring as many photos as you like, including rings she has hinted at or saved. Peter will identify what she likes about each one and combine those elements into one cohesive design that is entirely hers.

Will I see my engagement ring and diamond before it is made?

Yes. Before production begins, the Sakaris design team builds ultra-realistic 3D renderings of your ring. At a second consultation you review the renderings and see your loose diamond options in person, usually up to three, so you can compare sizes, shapes or proportions side by side. Nothing is made until you approve the design.

Can I make changes to the design before it's made?

Of course. Most designs are right the first time, but small refinements such as prong shape, band width or setting height are common at the second consultation. Every change is made before you give final approval, and production only starts once you are completely happy.

What's the difference between a natural and a lab-grown diamond?

Natural and lab-grown diamonds are both real diamonds, with the same chemical composition, hardness and brilliance. Natural diamonds formed deep in the earth over billions of years and are rare; lab-grown diamonds are created with advanced technology and cost significantly less for the same size and quality. Sakaris Jewelers works with both and advises on both options honestly with no agenda in either direction.

Do you make lab-grown diamond engagement rings in Naples?

Yes. Sakaris Jewelers makes lab-grown diamond engagement rings for Naples couples, designed with Peter Sakaris at the private Naples studio. Every lab-grown center diamond comes with an IGI grading report, is sourced to your exact shape, size, color and clarity, and is set in a ring made with the same craftsmanship as a natural diamond ring. Lab-grown diamonds typically let you choose a larger or higher-grade center stone for the same budget.

Will my diamond come with a grading report?

Yes. Every center diamond comes with an independent grading report: GIA (Gemological Institute of America) for natural diamonds and IGI (International Gemological Institute) for lab-grown diamonds. Peter also evaluates each stone beyond its report, looking at proportions, brilliance and how it actually looks to the eye.

Which diamond shape and size will look best on her hand?

Elongated shapes such as oval, elongated cushion, pear and marquise make the finger look longer and slimmer, while round, radiant and emerald cuts each have their own character. The most popular shapes with Naples clients in 2026 are oval, round brilliant and radiant, with elongated cushion close behind. Peter can show you how shape, length-to-width ratio and carat weight change the look on the hand.

Do diamonds look different in Florida sunlight?

Diamonds generally look their most brilliant in direct sunlight, which brings out their sparkle and fire. Sunlight also contains ultraviolet light, which causes some diamonds to fluoresce, usually blue. According to GIA, fluorescence has no widely noticeable effect on the vast majority of diamonds, and only in very rare cases does very strong fluorescence make a diamond look hazy. Fluorescence is listed on every grading report, and Peter reviews it when sourcing your diamond.

Which is best for an engagement ring: 14K gold, 18K gold or platinum?

All three are excellent. 14K gold is very durable and a great everyday choice. 18K gold contains more pure gold, giving a richer yellow color. Platinum is naturally white, dense and secure, and many clients choose a platinum head to hold the diamond on a yellow gold band, a two-tone combination that is very popular in Naples. Because every ring is custom, any combination is possible.

How do I make sure the ring is comfortable for everyday wear?

Comfort is designed in from the start. Peter considers setting height, band width, prong style and how the ring will be worn day to day, whether she plays golf, tennis or pickleball, spends time on the water, or works with her hands. A lower setting or a slightly wider band can make a big difference without changing the look.

Will my wedding band sit flush against my engagement ring?

It can. If a flush fit matters to you, it is built into the engagement ring design from the beginning, considering the setting height, basket and gallery. Sakaris Jewelers also makes custom wedding bands to match each engagement ring perfectly.

Can I add a hidden halo, birthstone, engraving or other personal detail?

Absolutely. A hidden halo under the center stone, a birthstone tucked into the setting, an engraving inside the band or another sentimental detail are all possible, and they are what make a custom ring truly one of a kind.

Can you reset a family diamond or heirloom stone in a new engagement ring?

Yes, Sakaris Jewelers is happy to design a new engagement ring around a family diamond or heirloom stone. Peter first examines the stone in person to confirm what it is and its condition, and will tell you honestly whether it is suited to the design before any work begins. Older stones can carry hidden stress or tiny fractures from years of wear that no inspection can fully detect, so family stones must be insured by the client before setting work begins.

What is the deposit, and when is the balance due?

A 50% deposit begins production once you approve the design, and the balance is due when you receive your ring. Some clients choose to pay in full up front, but only the 50% deposit is required. Credit card, PayPal, bank wire and Zelle are accepted.

What is included after I receive my engagement ring?

Every Sakaris engagement ring comes with its diamond grading report and an appraisal from an independent appraiser for insurance purposes. Ownership also includes one complimentary resizing within the first year, a complimentary cleaning once a year, and prong checks whenever you like. Manufacturing defects are covered for one year from delivery.

Can we start designing before we arrive in Naples for the season?

Yes. Many seasonal residents start with a virtual consultation by video from home, then see the renderings and diamonds in person once they arrive in Naples. One recent couple from Chicago designed a 30th anniversary ring this way.

Can I return a custom engagement ring?

Because every ring is made to order for one client, custom pieces can't be returned. That's why you approve the design and diamond at every stage before production begins. Manufacturing defects are covered for one year from delivery. Full details are on the return policy page.
